White House blocked Russian Federation testimony

Nunes, a six-term Congressman, becomes chairman of House Intelligence Committee.

There is a "real conflict of interest" where Nunes is involved, continued Schiff, and he thinks it would be in the best interest of the investigation if the committee had another leader. "In other words, they got a FISA order to watch the Russian ambassador just to see who in the Trump transition team might have contacted him". A few days later, CNN learned that Nunes in fact slipped into the White House the night before his revelatory press briefing to review sensitive information involving possible surveillance.

Trump has used Nunes' revelations to defend his unproven claim that Barack Obama tapped phones at Trump Tower.

In them, O'Neil pushes back against what he says is Justice Department guidance on what Yates could say about conversations she had with Trump - conversations the department indicated could be covered by executive privilege.

"The timing certainly raised a lot of questions about whether the White House preference had a lot to do with changing where this investigation was headed", said Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

"If she testifies, then great", he said.

Goodell confirmed Tuesday night that he would be in attendance when the Patriots begin the new year in Foxborough on September 7. Last season he opted to visit Atlanta for the Divisional and Championship rounds of the playoffs in back-to-back weeks.

Yates was sacked in January as acting attorney general after she refused to defend the Trump administration's first travel ban. She alerted the White House in January that Flynn had been misleading in his account of a December phone call with the Russian ambassador to the United States in which economic sanctions against Russia were discussed. Flynn was ousted after those discrepancies were made public.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, asked at a news conference whether Nunes should step aside from the investigation and if he knew the source of Nunes' claims about surveillance, said: "No and no".

Clearly exhausted with the investigation into a Russian connection, the White house was also tired of answering questions on House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes.

One Republican lawmaker, Representative Walter Jones of North Carolina, went so far as to join Democrats in demanding a special committee to investigate the Russian Federation probe, telling Fox News on Tuesday that Nunes was now "tainted". "I don't have, my colleagues are perfectly fine", Nunes said.

Reports that government lawyers had tried to silence former acting attorney general Sally Yates have been described as "100% false" by White House spokesman Sean Spicer.

The calls for Nunes to recuse himself began after it was revealed that he had visited the White House grounds last week to meet an unnamed source the day before publicly sharing details about surveillance that "incidentally collected" information on associates of President Donald Trump. Spicer discussed the Supreme Court nominee Justice Neil Gorsuch, jobs, healthcare, and other topics.
