NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will attend the Patriots 2017 season opener at Gillette Stadium.

The commissioner himself made sure of it Tuesday, when he said at the National Football League owners meeting he would attend the Patriots' home opener this season against an undetermined opponent.

Goodell confirmed Tuesday night that he would be in attendance when the Patriots begin the new year in Foxborough on September 7. Last season he opted to visit Atlanta for the Divisional and Championship rounds of the playoffs in back-to-back weeks.

For two seasons, New England Patriots fans have chanted "where is Roger?"

Memorial for officer killed in Westminster terror attack
Four people were killed when Islamist extremist Khalid Masood went on an 82-second rampage in Westminster on Wednesday. Speaking in Parliament, the MP said: "It was a delight to meet him here again only a few months after being elected".

It has become tradition for the reigning Super Bowl champions, in this case the Patriots, to be given the honor of hosting the first game of the NFL's regular season. But they went on to finish 14-2 and completed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history during their triumph over the Atlanta Falcons. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia disembarked from the team plane wearing a shirt that showed Goodell with a clown's nose.

"Well, I think I'll let you all ask him that", Kraft said Monday via the Boston Herald.

Prior to Super Bowl LI the Pats owner extended a formal invitation for Goodell to come back to Gillette Stadium.

Robert Kraft has previously said that Goodell would be welcomed at a game if he wanted to make an appearance. We're happy we'll be celebrating our fifth banner. "He's commissioner of the league". If he wants to come, he's welcome to come.
