1 dead in shooting along Vegas Strip

Part of the Las Vegas Strip was reportedly shut down on Saturday after a shooter killed one person and wounded another.

Las Vegas police say they are investigating a burglary at a high-end retail store inside the Bellagio Hotel and Casino.

Cops shut down blocks of the Strip after the shooting.

Guests at the Cosmopolitan resort were evacuated.

The victim was transported to UMC trauma in unknown condition, according to, LVMPD officer Larry Hadfield. The suspect is barricaded on a bus, and tactical teams and negotiators are on the scene on Las Vegas Boulevard.

The Salvadoran national, Tommy Vladim Alvarado-Ventura, 31, pleaded not guilty in a Hempstead, New York courtroom on Thursday. Around 4:15 a.m. his girlfriend arrived from work, noticed the injuries to her daughter and confronted Alvarado-Ventura.

Police say a gunman has barricaded himself inside a bus, prompting a partial closure of the busy boulevard near the Cosmopolitan hotel-casino.

The suspects in that incident wore black suits or tuxedos, police Lieutenant Carlos Hank told the Las Vegas Journal-Review.

University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said two people were taken to the hospital after the Saturday shooting.
