The New Haven area added 1,700 jobs last month, which was best performance among any of the state's six Labor Market areas.
Leading the declines were the construction industry, which shed 2,600 jobs; education and health services, which lost 1,500; and financial sector, which cut 1,300. The rate for metro Atlanta in January 2015 was 5.2 percent.
The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday released the new jobless numbers, which are from February.
Adams County rose to the fourth highest unemployment rate in the state at 10.4 percent, followed by Morgan County at 10.2 percent.
"Gains in Indiana's labor force participation rate are encouraging and further growth is needed to ensure Indiana reaches its workforce potential as a state", said Steven J. Braun, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD).
"Connecticut's performance is lagging national and regional rates when it comes to jobs and that must be a top priority for lawmakers moving forward", Gioia said. That's down from 5.7 percent in January and from 6.1 percent in February of previous year.

While this undoubtedly is good news, it's important to note that job seekers in many parts of the state continue to have a hard time finding work.
Ohio's unemployment rate in February inched up to 5.1 percent even as employment increased by 15,200, a report released today shows.
Illinois' unemployment situation also improved in February, dropping from 5.7 percent to 5.4 percent. This means that the unemployment rate can increase as more jobless workers resume their job searches as they become more confident that they can find work.
"Thus, Ohio's growth was below the US national average by a large amount in February 2017".
The state has added 57,500 over the last 12 months.
