One pilot dead after two small planes collide near Montreal

According to a spokeswoman for the area's police force one of the planes "crashed on the roof of one of the stores" and "the other one on the asphalt of the parking lot", according to STV.

A witness said he saw pieces of plane rain down onto the parking lot of the mall, called Promenades Saint-Bruno, located 25 kilometres south of Montreal.

One eyewitness, Carol Pelchat, told the news channel that she heard two planes overhead when she came out of the shopping mall.

Two planes collided above the Promenade Saint-Bruno shopping mall, Friday, March 17, 2017. A report into the crash recommended the busy airspace around Pearson be redesigned so that small planes have more room to avoid each other.

"I saw the plane spinning as it fell", he said.

Massive fire engulfs downtown Raleigh construction site
Nearby buildings and residents were being evacuated and it appeared power was knocked out in several nearby buildings. There is no indication of anyone being trapped in the fire, nor is there any news of anyone being killed by it.

The Transportation Safety Board finds the pilots of the glider and the Cessna probably didn't see each other because of blind spots and other visual problems.

The mall was evacuated because of a gas leak, and will remain closed on Saturday.

She added the federal agency will also talk to every witness of the crash.

Both were Cessnas from a flight school nearby.

Cargair said in a news release it was working with authorities and offered its sympathies to the families of the pilots. The 21-year-old died in the incident. A report into the crash concludes the converging position of the two planes would have made it hard for either to see the oncoming aircraft until it was too late.
