The Congress high command has chose to do away with the deputy chief minister's post, for which former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was a contender. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, and the state's richest legislator Rana Gurjit Singh will also be ministers.
Manpreet Singh Badal, estranged nephew of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, has been assigned the departments of Finance, Planning and Employment Generation. Charanjit Singh Channi won elections from Chamkaur Sahib. His wife Razia Sultana has won from Malerkotla on a Congress ticket and in all likelihood will be a Cabinet minister in the new Cabinet.
The council of ministers has representation from different castes, regions and faiths. This will be Amarinder's second stint as chief minister. The spokesperson pointed out that the complete arrangements for the event were made by the Raj Bhavan, with the Congress government not even sworn in till the completion of the ceremony.

Singh said that he will work on programmes mentioned in the manifesto from Monday and he will take up most of the issues in the first Cabinet meeting.
