The tweet was pinned to the top of the account page and was visible for about 20 minutes before it was deleted.

When asked for comment, Terri Hickey, a spokesperson for McDonald's, emailed a word-for-word repetition of the company's tweet to SiliconBeat.

However, McDonald's did not clarify whether the account had been hacked, or taken over by a disgruntled, outspoken, employee.

McDonald's corporate account continued to tweet to customers Thursday before addressing the apparent anti-Trump tweet.

While the tweet has since been deleted, with McDonald's brushing it off as an account hack, many customers are not convinced and appear set on condemning the company.

The new policy is in contrast to that of former President Barack Obama that limited the CIA's paramilitary role, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

"I got @McDonalds for lunch today in honor of their, mistake or no mistake, tweet to puppet baby hands this morning".

The president - who is reportedly very sensitive about his hand size, as well as comparisons to his predecessor Barack Obama - may bristle over the tweet.

Twitter may be US President Donald Trump's preferred way to attack his enemies, but recently he has been getting a taste of his own medicine.
