A little local price war between two gas stations in South Houston has allowed drivers to fill up for $0.78 a gallon, despite having to wait in line for 20 minutes in some cases. That's a one-cent drop from a week ago and three cents cheaper than a month ago.
The five states where prices fell the most were IN (down 12 cents), Kentucky (9 cents), OH (9 cents), MI (8 cents) and IL (6 cents).
The drop left gas prices about where they were a month ago in Chattanooga, although they remain almost 23 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
That customary spring spike we've been expecting appears to be on hold as oil prices have hit their lowest levels - less than $49 per barrel - since late November.
That said, "This downward trend may only be temporary", AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said.

The Southern region continues to remain home to some of the nation's lowest average prices for retail gasoline with six of the nation's top 10 least expensive markets. Modesto- $2.80/g, up 3.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.77/g.
Still, analysts say it's a matter of time before gasoline begins a large increase.
The Florida average was $2.274 on Monday, down from $2.288 a month ago and flat with a week ago. Georgia drivers previous year were paying about $1.875, while metro Albany motorists were paying $1.87.
To put it in perspective, this time last year, gas was $1.79 per gallon compared to five years ago when it was $3.68 per gallon.
Diesel fuel averages $2.58 per the AP, but these Houston stations marked it down to $1.99. Oakland- $3.00/g, up 1 cent per gallon from last week's $2.99/g.
