Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery signed a one-year, $14 million pact with Philadelphia, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.
Together, the two wide receivers give Wentz a speed component (Smith) and a big receiver who can outleap defenders for the ball (Jeffery), something the Eagles sorely lacked last season.
Jeffery joins the Eagles on the same day the team signed another veteran wide receiver, Torrey Smith from the San Francisco 49ers. He produced back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2013 and 2014.
Jeffery was the top free agent available on the NFL.com list of this season's top 101 free agents, so clearly the Eagles made receiver a priority this offseason.
Wentz has clearly captured the eye of the National Football League over the past year.
In regard to his penchant for being able to make contested catches, Jeffery said, "It's just something that comes natural to me". The former Bears receiver, however, hasn't had as many opportunities nor has he been as successful, over the last two seasons as he was earlier in his career.
No doubt Jeffery is getting paid this year, but there's also some risk involved here for him.
AT&T Facing FCC Investigation Over Emergency Call Outage
AT&T said the problem also affected customers in Georgia, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee , the Orlando Sentinel reported . If you call 911 for a non-emergency matter, it will not result in a faster response. @FCC public safety staff are investigating.
Since Jeffery is only receiving a one-year deal, it can be argued that this is a medium-risk deal at worst. Though he dealt with major injuries last season, Luck is widely considered one of the best young passers in the league and Indianapolis had far more cap space to spend on Jeffery and others.
The following two seasons, however, would be complicated by injuries to Jeffery and the general erosion of talent in Chicago. "I mean, how do I tell the city of Chicago and the Bears organization how much I love and appreciate them?"
Added Roseman: "It's a great compliment to Carson, and I think the rest of our offensive staff and the team". Going up against up Alabama's All-American cornerback Marlon Humphrey, Williams caught eight passes for 94 yards and one touchdown.
"I can't name everybody here because there are just too many", he said.
The Bears did make an offer to Jeffery, Pace said.
After missing seven games in 2015, Jeffery showed up in 2016 in what the Bears said at the time was the best shape of his career.
