Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings have both been charged by the English Football Association for violent conduct.
Ibrahimovic accepted the charge and was handed a three match ban on Tuesday, ruling him out of United's FA Cup quarter-final at league leaders Chelsea on Monday.
The Swede was adjudged to have purposely hit Tyrone Mings in the face in the 44th minute of the game between Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, March, 4, 2017).
The former Sweden worldwide lashed out on Mings during a coming together in the Cherries' penalty area after the Bournemouth defender appeared to stamp on Ibrahimovic's head.
Moments later, the duo leapt to meet a cross at the back post and Ibrahimovic's right elbow caught Mings on the cheek.
[Teams] West Ham vs Chelsea: Confirmed Line-Ups
Some teams can be guilty of over-complicating the game, but Chelsea under Conte just do the simple stuff brilliantly. The first damage Carroll did, though, was to himself, cutting his face when he jumped with Victor Moses.
LA Galaxy have told Zlatan Ibrahimovic they are prepared to make him the highest paid player in Major League Soccer history if he joins them from Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho has previously said that the club planned to exercise their option to extend Ibrahimovic's contract for a further season. Even though the match official failed to take action during the course of the game, the FA will be keen to hand out justice.
Having questioned how the charges can be "proven" without evidence that the incident was intentional, the statement adds that the club believe it was nothing more than an "accidental collision" between the players.
Bournemouth's Mings could be set for a much lengthier suspension with stamping deemed a more serious offence by FA regulations.
Mings denied it had been a deliberate act and said: "I obviously didn't mean it, but if there is reaction, there is reaction - everyone will have an opinion". "These situations happen. I go for the ball and I am unlucky that he jumps into my elbow".
