Less than a week after his release from the Jets, he found a new National Football League home and might still be able to continue as an analyst on Showtime's Inside the NFL. Throw in a polished second-year slot weapon in Sterling Shepard and NY may boast the NFL's top pass-catching trifecta. He and Ryan Fitzpatrick never got in sync and his running mate, Eric Decker struggled with injuries and missed most of the season. Putting the two together should create an nearly endless amount of possibilities that close to the end zone.
According to reports, Marshall, who will turn 33 later this month, agreed to terms on a two-year, $12 million deal to join the New York Giants.
From the photo, Marshall seems overjoyed to be joining Big Blue.
On top of his new-found competition for targets, Marshall may have started the declining portion of his career. In a Week 12 win in Cleveland, Manning hit physical 5-10 receiver Dwayne Harris for a 13-yard fade TD, connecting with a player rarely used on offense at all.
Winners and losers from Day 2 of National Football League combine drills
In total, more than 300 players will be evaluated by the 32 National Football League teams. His effort was good enough to break the record set by RB Chris Johnson back in 2008.
And with the right play design, he can win small too. And rookie back Paul Perkins flashed an eye-opening 67-yard screen pass catch-and-run in a Week 4 loss at Minnesota. When Beckham launched into his Cornholio moment (a '90s "Beavis & Butt-Head" reference) while playing Josh Norman, not a single teammate grabbed or corralled him back to sanity. Tight end Will Tye is 6-foot-2 but isn't a game-changer. Either way, expect to see less of Brandon Marshall on television now that he is a Giant.
Marshall was voted by the Jets as the team MVP in 2015 as he set the franchise record for catches (109) and receiving yards (1,502) in a season. Last year Davis caught 59 passes for 583 yards and two touchdowns for Washington. He is not coming off one of his strongest years. It was just in 2015 that Marshall scored a league-high and personal best 14 touchdowns with the Jets. Expect Marshall and Beckham to spend most of their time on the perimeter, with Shepard working from the slot. It is on Beckham and Beckham alone to answer Jerry Reese's ultimatum to grow up. He's a talented player who instantly gives their offense another much-needed playmaker to complement Odell Beckham Jr. and support quarterback Eli Manning.
Many suggested that by staying in NY and switching from the Jets to the Giants, Marshall could easily remain in his role with the program. Last season the Giants had a solid campaign. It's also clear Reese is nowhere close to done yet.
"I'm exhausted of watching the playoffs on my couch", Marshall said in January after the Jets finished 5-11 and failed to make the postseason for a sixth straight season".
