E Palaniswami, who took over officially as Tamil Nadu chief minister today, took a number of decisions including shutting of 500 state-run liquor shops (TASMACs).
An FIR was registered against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) working president M.K. Stalin on Sunday.
Though Palaniswami termed his visit a courtesy call, the DMK delegation submitted a petition from Stalin appealing to the Governor to "nullify" the vote of confidence won by Palaniswami government. The members of the legislature belonging to the AIADMK party were illegally detained against their will, brought in vehicles arranged by the supporters of the Chief Minister in order to vote in his favour. They want to carry on the fight to recognise their group led by Panneerselvam as the real AIADMK.
Palaniswami won the dramatic floor test two days ago, with the Speaker throwing out opposition DMK members for violence, including breaking of microphones and furniture. There is no facility of live transmission of Tamil Nadu Assembly Proceedings and there are several restrictions imposed on media making it hard to know what is going on in the house.

Their bodies were found on Tuesday in a creek on private property about a mile from where they were last seen. On Saturday, thousands gathered for a memorial motorcycle ride to raise money for the girls' families.
"Tamil Nadu is known as one of India's best-administered states". And as DMK leaders escalated protest in Marina Beach, MK Stalin was detained by the police.
O Panneerselvam, who was immediately sworn-in as state CM after her demise, could not garner the much-needed support to win the floor test in the state Assembly. "However, the question is whether what the Speaker did is right", says Constitution expert Subhash Kashyap.
Stating that he will participate in the hunger strike from Tiruchi, Stalin mentioned, "We're trying to meet President Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi on this regard, we have sought time to highlight the Assembly situation".
Including 11 AIADMK rebels and the 98-member opposition comprising the DMK, Congress and IUML, 108 members have already vowed to vote against the government. The assembly Speaker, Mr P. Dhanapal, was manhandled and his shirt torn in the ensuing struggle.
