Officers were called to a neighborhood near the Oakland Zoo for a report of a man armed with a rifle and shooting in the neighborhood, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said. The California Highway Patrol said via Twitter the man had been "disarmed and detained".

Video footage showed him being loaded into an ambulance. However, the scene is still active and police are asking residents to avoid the area.
